Who are you to play with my emotions?
Maybe I'm being too forward. Maybe this was all a bad idea. I'm being too forward.
It's not like she's lost. She's a teenager doing thoughtless teenager things, for heaven's sake! But she'll be back, that I know.
I'm so drained. Blasted damned headache is back. Blasted damned internet is out to get me. I've got enough on my plate. I've got real work to do.
But mark my words. My daughter is not your problem.

Dr. Hendler, I'm sorry this happened. I have no idea who this rogue poster could be. R Tobias, he calls himself, but that name doesn't ring a bell. Nor do I know how he could know about your daughter. Perhaps it's just a joke and we won't hear from him again. The internet is full of crackpots.
On another note, the images and articles you posted made me do some research of my own concerning solar flares. I found out a previous storm caused disruptions in GPS receivers. I also found Mount Wilson Observatory where they are conducting solar research, among other studies. I'm sure you are familiar with this facility.
Oh agreed!
The internet is a place full of very strange people. I note you say that you are relatively new to blogs Dr. Hendler, trust me it is commonplace to receive such weird and wonderfull comments but you learn to simply ignore the crackpots.
I know I have had my fair share of unusual postings and to be fair these people mean no harm they are simply troubled souls.
It is to be hoped that you will continue with this blog as it has, so far, proved a fascinating experience for us readers and a real feast for the eyes with reagrds to your image postings.
Best wishes,
Fizz
Well, I wouldn't say these people mean no harm. That might be the case usually, but once in a while you encounter someone who enjoys tormenting others.
Most people live their lives without being fully aware of who is standing next to them. Everyone has his own little world with borders far more heavily protected than any of history's dictatorial nations. Each person's perspective on reality is so limited it's hard to believe mankind has been able to achieve anything at all.
The civilized world's misery ensues when humans, even though they should possess intellect, a sense of right and wrong and a concept of love and friendship, let loose those qualities and blindly pursue their interests the way animals roam the wild. They set their mind on a goal and try to achieve it at any cost, no matter the body count.
Co-existence is only possible with tolerance, but tolerance relies on initial respect. With respect and a decent regard for others, there wouldn't even be anything to be tolerant about. Humanity has to let go of its selfishness if it really wants to elevate above nature.
I don't want to be anyone who forces his way of life, his ideas of a good time, onto others. Because others might not feel the same way as I do. I might bother or even offend them with my actions. I don't want to be the type of person who doesn't give a damn about that.
Life itself can already be enough of a struggle without the help of inconsiderate bastards.
Mount Wilson is a wonderful place! I used to go up there when I was younger, dragging along a favored telescope, sat my bottom down and gazed into the sky...
Yes, some storms, years ago, have disrupted on a relatively minimum level, certain sorts of electronics. Then there's '89. The truth is industry has developed much more robust technologies that quite successfully shield our power grid today. I'd wager even cell phones can take a good zap now and again and keep on ticking.
As for crackpots... what I fail to understand is the urge to go wild and bring chaos to an otherwise pleasant experience.
You say tolerance. I don't believe in tolerance. How, for example, are we to tolerate the evil in the world? Or the crackpots? Or the madmen who waste or money? Etc? Tolerance makes us captive to what other people do.
I believe that to each their own; if they have earned my respect then tolerance of their mistakes is a given. If they have heaped scorn or otherwise treated with me poorly, then no, nothing for them but my back.
